Rocking Track

Who's up for THIS!  24hr on track

15/5/2017

Cyclone 24 is the UK’s only 24 hour track cycling relay challenge event. Offering an experience that is genuinely different, demanding and alluring; a six person team, 24 hour relay cycling challenge where riders face the task of staying awake for 24 hours, battling physical exhaustion and mental fatigue, this really is a challenge of strength, determination and team spirit.

Riders take to the track, 1 rider per team, and then rotate relay fashion continuously throughout the 24 hour period, vying to record the furthest distance covered in the allocated time.

Starting in 2015 Cyclone24 has raised over £60,000 for charity and our Derby event is supporting the Nottingham Children's Hospital who care for more than 60,000 children from across the East Midlands every year.

If you're looking for a unique cycling challenge, cyclone24 is great way to set your own team record on the track at Derby Arena.

Full details and registration forms can be found on the web site http://www.cyclone24.co.uk/derby/

Ride to raise money for your chosen charity or simply to achieve something extraordinary!

The early 2017 dates for the Rocko Sessions have been set.  All on Saturdays, usual time: 19:00 to 21:00.

  • Saturday 21st January 2017
  • Saturday 11th February 2017
  • Saturday 11th March 2017
  • Saturday 8th April 2017

In each session there will be two streams, so each stream gets an hour of actual track time.  There is usually one stream for developing trackies, preparing them for and moving them through the 4-level accreditation process.  The other stream would be for the more Experienced trackies (at Level 3 and above) where we should get some gentle racing in amongst specific skills exercises.

13th August Track Session

31/7/2016

There will be a clear split to the 13th Aug session, with streams for both those who are interested in getting into the track accreditation, and a stream for those who are more experienced.

Accreditation Stream
Accreditation on the track is a 4-level affair.  Normally an introductory session will get you to Level 1, then (maybe after a further training session) you can attempt Level 2.  This can take a couple of months in total.

The 13th August session of the Rocko track will give anyone who either has existing track experience, or sound road riding experience, a chance to get Level 2 in one shot.  This will be a 2-hour session (19:00 to 21:00 at Derby Arena), with you on-track for 1 hour (sharing the session with the more experienced group) that will get you Level 2 as long as you show you can control a track bike (single speed, fixed) well.

Experienced Stream
This will be a mix of specific training events and a couple of competitive sessions, based on what those attending want to focus on.

This session is not limited to Rocko riders, so if you belong to any SE Midlands club, or have friends who are interested, please let them know too.   Contact Steve using the form below for details.

SEM Team Training Session - 12-June

13/6/2016

12th June was a team track session, with training with the objective of working together to get the team of 3/4 round the track as soon as, without distancing anyone in the team.  There were 4 adults and a good representation of 6 riders from the WVCC Whizz Kids and graduates thereof.

The skills involved add another layer to simply 'how fast can you go', through the essential nature of the communication through the team, and the finding of the best tempo for everyone, and the right mix of people taking the front for the right length of time.  Get it right and the feeling is fantastic.

We need to think about how we can get a really well-knit team or teams together using these sessions, and find a suitable place for this group to enter competitions.  Any ideas are very welcome...
