Just seven Rocko riders acquitted themselves brilliantly against twenty-one Welland Valley (plus one Welland ‘day member’). Paul Beattie and Peter Wilson going under the hour, and Peter Kucak just missing that target by nine
seconds, shone out their quality, finishing second, third and fourth fastest in the field. If we had had one more scoring rider we might have won back the Inter-Club Trophy - so much the pity that Pete Bradshaw was feeling unwell on the morning and couldn’t ride. And maybe if someone had lent super strong Nathan Joyce a set of aero bars, instead of riding tall on the brake hoods of his road bike, he might have gone three or four minutes quicker?
From the club trophies up for grabs for this long-standing event, Paul Beattie takes the McLeod Challenge Cup as the fastest club member outright, while Peter Wilson- wins the Roberts Trophy for the best ride on handicap based on recent club ‘10’ times, and first timers Nathan Joyce and Simon Beesley share the Eskdale Novice Trophy for the fastest club rider - not placed previously in any open time trial.
The handicap results are pretty close and I think look about as might be expected; it’s pretty tough stepping up from club 10’s to a 25 on the Kibworth course with its rolling sections and unforgiving surfaces.
Great too, to see the club-ride out at the A6/Melton Mowbray Road island, cheering us through towards the finish.
