On a warm night, with the light easterly wind suiting the course, and with riders well honed from their efforts of the season, there were many best times on the valley tonight. As so often before,
visiting guest rider Kristian Woolf (still only twenty one years old) showed the way home with his natural speed, producing a fast 22:13. While Paul Beattie, at a mere forty years old, found some new speed in 23:02, a massive 30 seconds improvement over his previous course best done right at the beginning of the club ten programme in April. Maybe Paul has broken through a bit of a plateau? With a 'twenty-two' now firmly in his sights he will be hoping for similar conditions next week, his last club ten before leaving for the championships in Australia.
There was an even greater improvement of thirty-three seconds done by Paul Furnell on his road bike to do 26:42. I guess he must have enjoyed that. Pete Rowbotham, on his all-use road bike, has made improvements in each of the last few weeks and found another 4 seconds to do his best of 28:25 , while hard working ‘come back rider’ Julian Freeman reported he had done a new best by one second counting back eight years!
Another ride perhaps to mention was that of sixteen-year-old guest, Josh Van Neirop (Broom Wagon) powering round in 23:27, the third fastest of the evening. Some talent and application there I would think.
