Devils Series 30.5.18

It was a rather murky evening for the first of our time trials on the Devil’s Circuit, running from Bringhurst up the ‘staircase’ to Stockerston crossroads, down to Medbourne and back to the start – 9.1 hard miles.
Newbie Tom Cockerill (RFW) put in the best time of the day with 22:17, closely followed by Ian Day (Aspire Velo) with 22:27 and Paul Beattie (RFW) in 22:29.
Oldest competitor Peter Nix  (RFW) did 26:05 and our youngest rider Mac Carter (RFW) gave it a really good go with 33:19. This was a tough circuit for such a young competitor.
Here’s hoping for good weather next week. My usual thanks go to all officials, marshals and helpers, without whom the event wouldn’t happen.
This week's photo gives a rather indistinct picture of Paul Beattie pushing for the finish.

The sun came out at start time but didn’t last long. Most of this week’s TT was held in quite cold and windy conditions but most riders managed to put in good times.
Fabos Young (Velo Elite) finished in 21:35, closely followed by Jack Patmore (Velo Elite) with 21:52. Julian Freeman (RFW) was the fastest RFW rider with 25:02.
Although he missed his ‘official’ start time 15 year old Will Deeley (RFW) finished in 25:41 (adjusted time) and 18 year old Matt Lonergan (RFW) followed closely with 25:49.
My usual thanks go to all race officials and helpers.

Our photo this week show a general view of the start, with John Dainty ready for the ‘off’.

Spring Series 16.5.18

As often seems to be the case Wednesday’s weather was awful, a cold evening with a fresh north-easterly breeze making conditions rather difficult.
In spite of this we had seventeen customers for our time trial. However, Neill Howarth and Matthew Lonergan had mechanical issues that meant they were unable to start.
Austin Smith (RFW) put in the best time of the evening with 25:23, narrowly beating Julian Freeman (RFW) who finished in 25:34.
Arwel Hughes (RFW) was the last solo rider to beat the 30 minute mark, finishing in 29:14.
John Dainty and Michael Prescott elected to ride John’s tandem, putting in a creditable time for the conditions of 29:10.
My usual thanks go to all officials and helpers who make the event possible.

After a fairly hot day the evening cooled, making for more pleasant conditions, though there was a noticeable breeze that didn’t seem to help the riders. From an all-male field (where are the women riders?) Julian Freeman (RFW) posted an unexpected (for him) fastest time of 25:30, with Mike Higgins (WVCC) in 25:54, closely followed by Austin Smith (RFW) in 25:58. Fourteen year-old Will Deeley (RFW second claim) did well at 26:13, while Jim Wynn (unattached) was the last rider to beat the 30 minute barrier with 29:52.
Our photo this week shows John Dainty making a strong start.
Well done to all and my usual thanks to all officials, marshals and helpers.

A very rainy morning finally cleared to give a sunny afternoon, but it was still cold once the sun went down. The conditions did not seem set for riders to achieve a personal best but everyone gave it a go, anyway.
Paul Beattie (RFW) again posted fastest time of the day with 24:04. Mark Weathersby (KCC) finished second, with 24:56 and Julian Freeman (RFW), testing a new bike, was third with 25:57.
Oldest rider of the day, John Dainty (RFW) managed to beat the 30 minute barrier on his TT bike and finished in 29:34.
My usual thanks go to all officials and helpers.
Our photo this week shows Julian Freeman making a final push for the finish.
