Horrible gloomy and windy conditions all day long, and rain building through the afternoon didn’t bode well for the evening time trial. If it had still been December or January you might have said it was fairly mild but not on the first day of June. At least the rain cleared well in time for the start and
the strong northerly to north-easterly wind dried the road surface except for our little finish straight where the water was still streaming onto the road, as it often seems to do. Ten riders turned up to give it a go, some discussing what it was going to be like after their warm-ups with the headwind against on the way up to Bringhurst.
Paul Beattie 23:51, Peter Kucak 24:57 and Steve Wickham 25:03 all on TT bikes finished outstandingly faster than everybody else, who were all riding road bikes. I’d say that was a good ride by Paul and especially Steve who just missed making a long 24. Peter’s ride, over 30 seconds slower than last week's probably reflecting the difficult windy conditions.
The seven road bikers were all covered by the time range 29:19 to 32:51. Only Paul Furnell had ridden last week on his road bike when he was 51 seconds faster and we didn’t think last week was a fast night. When are the warm summer evenings arriving?
Again a brilliant turnout of helpers for the time trial, with extra marshals out on the course, the riders were very well looked after.
Next week is the last Ten of the Spring Series, followed by the 20 mile on the 15th and the Inter-club 25 on the 22nd, on our course.
