Today’s round 4 of the N&DCA Time Trial Series was on the twisting and rolling 19 miles of the Litchborough course near Towcester – organised by the A5 Rangers. Starting from a dog leg near Grimscote it takes the riders onto an out and back course from the edge of Litchborough to just short of
Thorpe Mandeville, through the villages of Maidford, Adstone, Canons Ashby and Moreton Pinkney, turning at a triangle junction with the road to Sulgrave, to retrace to the finish before Litchborough. Nice countryside if the there was any chance to view it. Today’s conditions; light rain and drizzle and gusting southerly wind meant full concentration was required on the tricky, rough and pot hole scattered road. At least it wasn’t cold and the wind made for a rapid return leg.
Of eight Rocko’s entered only the over 60’s trio of Mike Harvey (1:03:20), John Dainty (56:30) and Peter Nix (52:51) completed the race. Mark Daniels was a victim of a pothole, falling and injuring an elbow. Hope he is okay, although I understand he was able to drive himself home. Paul Beattie was DNF after unshipping his chain, that’s all I heard about his mishap. The Freeman double act was DNS, probably wary of the conditions after their recent accidents, as was Pete Wilson.
Riding with a great deal of caution through the series of bends it was satisfying to have finished and got in a good workout.
