Twelve of the sixteen signed on for the two-lap, 20 miles challenge, with four opting to go for a single lap ‘10’.
With no Paul Beattie to chase this week, Peter Kucak, aboard his time trial machine, was fastest, pacing his ride very evenly to finish in 48:59. Pete Bradshaw, riding his road bike, was second fastest, losing only 35 seconds to Peter. Third fastest with 51:43, again on a standard road bike, was “can’t wait to ride my next road race” Daniel Leverton, making a first appearance in the club time trial, while next was Simon Beesley, 53:06, the only rider on the night to go faster on his second lap (first lap 26:54), showing good pacing and probably indicating there’s plenty more to come.
Misfortune struck Steve Wickham, completing his first lap in 26:00, and no doubt heading for a competitive time in the top four, when just into his second lap, approaching the river crossing, he rode into a pothole lurking in the wet at the nearside of the road, breaking both his front and rear wheel. Another, who (apparently) had signed on to do the ‘20’ but completed only one lap, was guest rider Kristian Woolf. He was credited with a time of 23:00 for the ten miles. Not quite the pace we know he can do on his time trial machine, so maybe something led to him curtailing the ride. Club members Michael Sirett and Tony Hughes made first time appearances for this year. Tony expressing pleasure at doing his best ‘10’ to date.
