Last Saturday I rode the Tin Can 10 time trial (10.4 miles ); I only came 5th (31.53), while the winner did a 28 minute.
I was thinking that next year more riders could enter from the Rocko ?? Have You got a hub geared bike? Any type will do - Shopper, Brompton , Hetchins even a Chopper! As long as the gears are in the HUB (Sturmley Archer etc.) You have about a year to source one out; check out http://www.bikejumbles.co.uk/tincanten/index.html Let me know if your interested, next years event is July 7th 2018. Just turn up on the day - entry £3, free teas /cakes (donations). It's a nice afternoon out Regards John Dainty We helped Rockingham Primary School run their Big Bike Day event today (24-June). They are developing interest in cycling in their children, and this event challenged them to ride as many laps of a 1 km course we had laid in West Glebe Park. There were almost 30 who accepted the challenge, and rode/scooted or even ran around the loop. A number managed lap counts in double figures, which was pretty good going for the age group!
Thanks to the members who helped; Arthur, David H, Eileen, Johnny, Julian, Nathan, Norman N, Paul B and Paul F. We hope to continue this relationship with the school, and a couple more in the area to enable us to build a youth group over the coming 12 months. Steve There is one place still available to join the twinning event where we meet up with our friends from Germany and France, this year the location is France. It is a great, cheap way to get some international experience under your belt. More information is to be found here, and please contact mail Norman Needham if you are interested.
Rob has penned a brief report which is on our Rockos Abroad page, here, along with photos.
Whenever you are out of our area cycling, please take some photos, add as brief or as long a report as you like and I'd be happy to publish it all. Your website needs your input! Send them to Steve. The annual twinning event is being planned now. This year we and our cycling friends from Velbert in Germany will be joining up with our French counterparts in Chatellerault from 7 to 10 July 2017. A very low-cost cycling trip to France is on offer here - see the Twinning page for more details.
The club now has broadband with wi-fi. The wi-fi id is PLUSNET-79T6 and the password is peloton17.
Any 'early adopters' who already linked with the password provided by PlusNet will have to get their phones to forget the network and rejoin with the new password. We'll try and change the clubhouse closure procedure to keep the network on so it can be available before a club ride without having to enter the clubhouse and power up the hub. |
